RUF BTR
The RUF BTR, with its 408hp 3.4 liter turbocharged engine, was the first single-turbo engine to be fitted with the Motronic engine management system. Its 408hp output peak came at 6000rpm with peak torque available at 4800rpm. Its torque curve was characterized by a smooth transition into turbocharger boost range in addition, the engine was more flexible at low revs. Motronic also provided significant fuel economy benefits.
RUF also offered customers a slant-nose version of the BTR, with flip-up headlamps. This was built with the same hand-crafted quality and attention to detail as could be found in Porsche’s own shops. Customers could choose between either the familiar RUF five-speed manual transmission or the new RUF six-speed manual.
The BTR could acceleration to 62mph in a mere 4.6 seconds. Aerodynamic drag finally matched available power to hold the wide turbo bodywork to a top speed of 180mph.
